Have you ever tried looking through a dirty window? No matter how beautiful the view might be on the other side, the smudges and grime distort what you see. That\u2019s exactly what it\u2019s like when we look at life\u2014especially the future\u2014through the lens of unhealed heart wounds. Pain from the past can blur our perspective, casting shadows of fear, mistrust, bitterness, or insecurity over new opportunities and relationships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
God didn\u2019t create us to live this way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Past Doesn\u2019t Have Permission to Define the Future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Wounds from past experiences\u2014whether from betrayal, abandonment, disappointment, or trauma\u2014can leave filters on our hearts. And unless those filters are healed, we begin to expect the same pain to show up again. We protect ourselves by assuming the worst, and we begin to doubt the goodness of God\u2019s plans for us. We enter into a destructive belief expectation cycle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n But here\u2019s the truth: the past may have shaped you, but it doesn\u2019t have the right to define your destiny.<\/strong> Jesus came not just to forgive sin, but to bind up the brokenhearted<\/strong> (Isaiah 61:1). He wants to heal your lens so that you can walk forward in truth and freedom\u2014not fear and self-protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t Let Yesterday\u2019s Pain Speak Over Tomorrow\u2019s Promise<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In\u00a0Philippians 3:13-14, Paul writes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cForgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Paul doesn\u2019t mean we erase our memory. He means we don\u2019t let what\u2019s behind us keep us from what\u2019s ahead. Healing allows us to learn from the past without being bound by it. It allows us to see clearly\u2014ourselves, others, and God\u2014through the lens of love, not fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A Healed Heart Sees with Hope<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When our wounds are unhealed, we tend to interpret the future through self-protection and skepticism:<\/p>\n\n\n\n But healing rewrites those beliefs.
